Aegean Air cheats during online ticket reservation with IP tracking ( this)

Aegean air is using ip tracking to increase ticket prices during online reservations.

Summary: Aegean air is using ip tracking to increase ticket prices during online reservations.

Airlines have always denied using either cookies or IP tracking to monitor interest in tickets for a certain trip from your computer and increase ticket prices progressively.

Aegean aurlinesWe just had a very clear example today for a return flight from  Larnaca to Athens with Aegean Air: after some comparisons with other airlines the ticket price went slowely up first by some € only. Then, and this is new, even after having confirmed the flight and entered the credit card details the site said 'we are unable to confirm your reservation, please try again' and , yes you guessed, the price for the same tickets went up by 5%.

I am wondering up to what point this procedure is legal, perhaps a subject for the European Parliamant?

What can you do?

1. Disable cookies

2. Erase the cookies from the airline reservation site.

3. Delete Browsing History

4. Start a 'Private Browsing Session'

But as the airlines also know that anybody can do this, they mostly use IP tracking, meaning the IP of your PC is stored and when you reconnect and search for the same destination, prices are going up automatically.

To avoid IP tracking by train and airline reservation sites

1. It is not sufficient to use 2 different PCs or a PC and a smartphone if you are connected to the same WIFI access point / modem. Search on one access point (during lunch break at work) and confirm at home.

It is often mentioned that airline reservation sites take other parameters into account to increase ticket prices (apart from the official demand/offer ratio) but these are less proven:

2. Day and time of day: chances are bigger that business trips are booked during morning hours on working days, (= more expensive). Airlines, historically, tend to offer sale fares very late on Sunday nights and early Monday morning.

3. Apple, iPad, etc users are statistically in a higher income class and are willing to spend more on tickets (= more expensive)

See how easy it is: Here is your data
